 Readers are Leaders!
Dear Families,
This year the Nickerson community has taken on the challenge of reading many different kinds of books (genres). Although there are numerous genres, the staff has decided to track a range of literature that offers students the opportunity to read a wide variety of text types. We have created a wall sized bar graph in the front hall tracking how many Biographies, Nonfiction Animal texts, General Nonfiction books,Fairy Tales/Tall Tales, Fiction Series, and General Fiction books are read by students and staff this year.
Quality literature takes children away from their everyday lives, expands their backgrounds, develops their imaginations, and promotes understanding and respect for others. Reading teaches children about themselves and others, which prepares students for their future role as members of a global society.
Our goal at the Nickerson School is to develop life-long readers so, as always, happy reading!
