Dear parents and/or guardians,
Hello all. This is going to be the first of many notes and reminders that I will be sending home throughout the year. This one is going to be a quick overview of classroom information and what my plans are.
I would like to begin with homework. As I am sure you have noticed, I have not sent any work home this week. Next week, however, there will be work every day. The students in 4th grade are required to read at least 20 minutes a day for homework. This includes Fridays and reading 20 minutes over the weekend. I will be sending home a reading log that needs to be filled out. I will explain this to the students more next week and I will be sending a letter explaining more later in the year. In addition to the reading I will also be sending homework in math most nights. This will depend on how the students did in class and whether or not I think they need more practice.
Next I would like to inform you about my website. You can find this site by going to nickerson.rsu20.org, then clicking on my name in the teachers website menu. My site has information about homework, the classroom rules, upcoming events, and has copies of the letters I send home. In addition there are links to games and educational sites, and pictures of classroom activities and big events.
One last thing, thanks for sticking with me so long. ;) The book orders that I am sending home are due by September 16. They may come in earlier, but I will not accept them after the 16th. Please make the payments out to Scholastic Book Club. Also please do not send cash, Scholastic no longer takes cash, it is check or money order only. If you would like to make your order online my teacher code is GYD39.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call, email, or send in a note and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks for your time.

Dear students, parents and/or guardians,
Hello, my name is Nicholas Hills (Mr. Hills in the classroom please). I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer, I know I did. It is almost that time of year again, and I am getting excited for the new school year. Before we begin, however, I wanted to give everyone a little information about myself. I know some of you from last year, but I want to give the new students heading my way a chance to know some things about me.
This year will be my fourth year as a teacher. I am very excited to expand on what I learned last year, and hope to continue to learn as the students do. It may be of interest to you that I went to school in RSU 20, I am proud to be teaching along side some of the same people that taught me. My wife, Megan Hills, also teaches at and went to school in RSU 20. I am looking forward to getting to know more about the rest of you through out the year.
BeforeI wish you all a good end to the summer, I would like to make suggestions to some supplies that would help us get through the school year. I would appreciate it if students could bring:
Pencils
Erasers
Colored pencils
Hand held pencil sharpeners
Glue sticks
In addition, if you can find it in your budget to donate, the classroom could always use more tissues. This is not something I need everyone to bring, but we all use them and extras would be appreciated.
With that out of the way, I hope you all enjoy the rest of your summer! I will see you soon.
Sincerely,
Mr.Nicholas Hills
